Children’s brains have two main growth spurts – the first occurs around age 2 while the second one occurs during adolescence. During these critical periods, children experience radical brain development. 

• The number of neural connections or synapses between neurons doubles. 

• In fact, 2 year olds have double the number of synapses as adults, making this time an opportunity for children to learn more and faster than any other time.
